Smallmatters was interviewed in the magazine by Ida Løvdahl Alvsen and Kjersti Veel Krauss.

"We have the solution to a tiny part of the problem, and we can work on it" We thought at the beginning that we were going to save the whole world, but quickly found out that we couldn't. But everyone is going and everyone can do something, if you don't do anything, nothing happens" Smallmatters 2021

The waste problem surrounding textiles has been known for many years and has been studied many times. Until now, textiles have been produced according to a linear model, where new natural resources are used to make textiles, the clothes are sold, they are used and thrown away. If you are going to achieve a circular textile industry, you have to think again and already at the design stage about how what you produce can be put into a circular process where it is recycled or can be used again and again.

Today, enormous amounts of textiles are produced, often of poor quality and often in mixed materials, which makes it difficult to recycle the textiles. In addition, enormous amounts are produced that never leave the warehouse where they are produced. Either due to incorrect dyeing, cancellation or overproduction. The environmental challenge of the textile industry itself makes many people think differently.

Currently, Smallmatters focuses on the environmental challenge of overproduction and faulty production, where fully usable and fine textiles are left in storage or thrown away. At the same time, we work to extend the life of used textiles defined as textile waste. We constantly strive to find the most sustainable alternative that leaves the least footprint, and communicate the importance of making a sustainable purchase to consumers.

It's overwhelming for many when you talk about circular economy and sustainability, including for us. Many people think it's not about me. That's why we're called Smallmatters. We think that something is better than nothing and that everyone benefits.
