Conscious choices
SMALL ACTIONS CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE
The textile industry is responsible for around 8% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions and is considered one of the most polluting industries globally. At the same time, approximately 65% of all textiles consist of synthetic materials that do not break down in nature.
At Smallmatters, we make conscious choices to make a difference: we use pure, natural fibers and surplus materials in our production. Natural fibers require less water, are processed with fewer harmful chemicals, and are both biodegradable and recyclable.
OUR VISION
We want to inspire more conscious choices, and show that quality products can be created without unnecessarily burdening the environment. Whether we transform existing textiles into new products, or create new products from sustainable natural materials, we contribute to a more circular economy.
Small everyday choices can make a big difference – for both people and the environment. Our goal is to create attractive, high-quality products that make it easy for you to choose environmentally friendly.

SUSTAINABILITY AND RESPONSIBILITY
With support from Innovation Norway, the Norwegian Trade Environmental Fund and the Research Council, we are working to make a difference, and hope you will join us on the journey.
Smallmatters aims to be a driving force in the development of sustainable products that reduce both our own and our customers' environmental footprint. We promote:
- Reduced consumption
- Limited extraction of natural resources
- Minimal waste
Sustainability and responsibility are at the core of our business. Together with our producers, we commit to the highest ethical standards.
ETHICS AND PRODUCTION
We ensure a safe and responsible working environment at our manufacturers, where working conditions, health, environment and business ethics are safeguarded. All our manufacturers have signed a Code of Conduct agreement, which is based on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
This means that manufacturers:
- Ensures that own production and subcontractors comply with local laws and regulations
- Respects fundamental human and labor rights
- Complies with environmental regulations and chemical requirements
MATERIAL CHOICE AND COLLABORATION
We use exclusively recyclable, natural fibers and prioritize surplus materials and textile waste. Natural fibers:
- Requires less water in production
- Processed with fewer and less harmful chemicals
- Are biodegradable and recyclable
We only cooperate with factories we have visited personally, or that are controlled by a Norwegian agent company that is a member of the Ethical Trade Initiative and follows their guidelines.
