The impact of the textile industry on the environment

The textile industry is responsible, according to the UN, for 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The industry emits more than air traffic and shipping combined. The fashion industry produces 20% of the world's wastewater, and more than 90% of the environmental impact occurs in the production of the textile itself. At the same time, enormous amounts of fully usable textiles are thrown away.
The UN relies on Quantis, which has produced a comprehensive analysis of the environmental impacts of the textile industry.
